I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
Galatians 2:20
“I am loved by God. He gave himself for me.“
These words resonate profoundly, both devastating and uplifting. It is challenging to fathom that someone would sacrifice their life for me – for all my shortcomings, that someone would willingly surrender themselves on my behalf. To settle a penalty, to clear a debt I would never dare confront.
Reflecting on Christ, I often consider my relationship with my son. Should he encounter adversity – what lengths would I not go to ensure his survival?
It might seem straightforward to assert that if one’s child errs or commits a crime, they should face the consequences. Indeed, it is just for individuals to bear responsibility for their actions. However, life is seldom straightforward. Love is complex.
The heart of devoted parents towards their troubled child is torn. They yearn for their offspring to learn life’s stern lessons and emerge improved. Yet, the thought of their child enduring agony, distress, and potential peril can be unbearable.
Thus, it is both shattering and transformative to recognize that Christ would lay down His life for me.
Contemplating Christ’s sacrifice transforms me – not from guilt or shame, but through profound thankfulness.
Today, let us ponder Christ’s sacrifices for us.
Let us meditate on the suffering He bore for us.
May His love dwell within us, instilling a renewed sense of purpose in our lives today.
