14 How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? 15 And how can anyone preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!”

Romans 10:14-15

Some of us have an old pair of sneakers that are usually the go-to pair, daily beaters, the ones we can rely on. They are comfortable, but do the job of helping us get from place to place. For some of us they are the pair that seem most aesthetically pleasing to us, and seem to go with every outfit. I had once bought a pair of no-name sneakers which were imitation reproductions of the famous 1917 Converse Chuck Taylor All-Stars. They cost me $7.00 from a store in chinatown. But somehow, out of all the shoes I’ve owned, they were about the most comfortable sneakers I’ve ever worn. I wore those sneakers for close to three years before all the eyelets were torn and could not lace them up any longer. The most memorable part of having those shoes was not the style, nor the comfort though. It was the memories that I had with them. I wore them on mission trips overseas, to school almost everyday, to work, and even to church on Sundays. They were so ragged and beaten but yet everyone asked questions about them. They would be shocked at how much I had bought them for.

When we choose to walk with the Lord each day carrying the good news, there is a beauty to the feet of those who live that journey. There are stories of God’s work, and beautiful testimonies that grow from our obedience to Him. But how can one experience the greatness of God and testify that he truly is great without experiencing it first hand? How does one’s feet bear the evidence of such a journey without ever stepping out into the open? And how can people hear about the greatest gift ever given to man without someone telling them of it?

Today, may the Lord carry you on that journey of faith. May God’s glory glisten in the beauty of those feet that are obedient to Him, and may it become a testimony of where faith takes you to experience in this lifetime.
